Daily Devotional

August 19

33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. 34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. (Acts 13:33-34 KJV)

Paul is quoting from Psalms 2:7, which many times has been taken to refer to the birth of Jesus, but Paul is saying that it refers to the resurrection of Jesus, and not His birth.  When Jesus was resurrected, He was made into a new being with a glorified body, and therefore was begotten as a new species of being (2 Corinthians 5:17).  This new species of body is promised to us, who believe in Jesus, when He comes again to take us up into heaven.

Note that the resurrected body of Jesus will live forever (no more to return to corruption), and that is what we will do also.  The fact that our new bodies will never see corruption means we will never have sickness, pain or death (Revelation 21:4) hallelujah!  All Christians can look forward to getting their new bodies when we see Jesus face to face (1 Corinthians 13:12), upon His return to get us.  Thank you Lord for these promises!
